I Had to Rework This Dress After Sewing | White Embroidered Cotton Fail to Fix
Hi, I’m Fumi. I used to make trousers professionally and have been sewing for over 30 years. In this video, I sew the Hilary Top by Tessuti using a white embroidered cotton fabric. This fabric has a beautiful structure with delicate embroidery, but it is thicker than it looks and requires careful handling during construction. Especially when working with seams and facings, controlling the bulk is important to achieve a clean finish. In this project, I walk through the full sewing process, focusing on how to manage fabric thickness and maintain neat construction throughout. You’ll see key techniques such as: stabilizing and finishing thicker seams managing gathers and peplum construction handling facings and preventing them from showing refining the garment after initial assembly (reworking for a cleaner finish) This garment also required a small rework after construction, where I adjusted the facing to improve the final appearance. Hi, I’m Fumi. I used to make trousers professionally and have been sewing for over 30 years. In this video, I sew the Demi Pants by Tessuti using a lightweight summer wool with a subtle check pattern. One of the challenges with checked fabric is keeping the pattern aligned throughout the garment. In this video, I share how I cut the pieces for pattern matching and how I transfer reference lines to keep everything consistent. I also demonstrate a tailoring technique I learned while making trousers professionally. When sewing the curved crotch seam, I gently stretch the fabric and add a second line of stitching to improve seam strength and durability.
