A secret tip: the Dickens Festijn in Deventer in the Netherlands is my absolute favorit Christmas Market of the world! The city and people of Deventer reproduce the world of Charles Dickens, known of his novels "A Christmas Carol" and "Oliver Twist", perfectly!!! This beautiful Christmas market is held only two days (one weekend) in a year, in the middle of December. The perfect atmosphere already starts when you arrive at the train station of Deventer. The most of the visitors are from the Netherland itself and Germany, so this is not really internationally famous or visited yet, and I hope it remains like it is. This video is the mix of my visits starting from 2017 for 3 years in a row. This is a must of the Christmas time :) In 2021, the 2nd year of the Covid 19 and 30th year ot the Dickens Festival, it will be held in a different form: audio tour (available in Dutch only), because the organiser does not yet consider a "normal" Dickens Festival as a rational option. On a Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 December 2022, more than 950 characters from the famous books of this English writer come to life in the historic Bergkwartier: from Scrooge to Oliver Twist, from Mr. Pickwick to Christmas Carol Singers, from orphans to office clerks and distinguished figures. The Dickens Festivity is both days from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is visited by over 125,000 visitors each year. Admission is free. The flugelhorn and barrel organ was amazing!! The middle of November is the time for Sinterklaas, one of the sources of the popular Christmas icon Santa Claus, to come to the Netherlands from Spain! You'll see in this video, how it looked like during this Covid time. Normally, the parade starts from Amstel river, goes through the canals and streets, and ends at Dam, in the middle of Amsterdam. In 2021 the parade was limited to the canals because of the Covid circumstances. My favorite place / fellows in Düsseldorf: the sheep by / on the other side of the Rhein river! It's really relaxing listening to them eating grass :-) They are lawn mowers for the Rhine meadow (Rheinwiesen).
