Asia Society Texas Center: Yoshitaka Amano "Big Bang" Exhibit | Houston, TX
Asia Society Texas Center: Yoshitaka Amano "Big Bang" Exhibit | Houston, TX Join our video journalist Victor F. for a visit to Asia Society Texas Center in Houston's Museum District. He sips tea at Kin Cafe, tries the hands-on Explore Asia gallery and then goes upstairs to "Yoshitaka Amano: Big Bang." Many people know Yoshitaka Amano (天野喜孝) for his work on Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D and Speed Racer. This exhibition covers nearly 30 years of the fine art he has painted for himself. You'll see huge, colorful canvases, shimmering gold-leaf panels and a wall of moody ink drawings. The paintings mix his famous character designs with Japanese folklore, Art Nouveau and Pop Art. Japanese learners, watch for the Explore Asia gallery, where you can press buttons to hear everyday phrases like いただきます (itadakimasu), かわいい (kawaii) and even テキサス (Tekisasu). There's also a fun "My Local Konbini" convenience store display! ⏱ Chapters 0:00 Intro 0:10 Around the grounds 0:15 Kin Cafe 0:25 Explore Asia gallery (Japanese phrases & konbini) 0:50 Upstairs to the Big Bang exhibit (2F) 0:58 Yoshitaka Amano's paintings 2:05 Outside (don't forget your admission sticker!) 📍 Asia Society Texas Center, 1370 Southmore Blvd., Houston, TX 77004 🗓 On view through February 7, 2027 🔗 https://asiasociety.org/texas/exhibitions/yoshitaka-amano-big-bang About Houston Nihongo Kai (ヒューストン日本語会): We're a nonprofit community for learning Japanese and sharing Japanese culture. ブルーアンバー (Blue Amber) — originally by back number, released April 2025 as the theme song for the drama あなたを奪ったその日から. Written and composed by Iyori Shimizu. 嘘月 (Usotsuki) "Liar" – Yorushika ヨルシカ | Band Cover by Asian Economics
嘘月 (Usotsuki) — originally by ヨルシカ (Yorushika), from the 2020 album 盗作. The title is a pun: 嘘 (lie) + 月 (moon), read the same as 嘘つき, "liar." It's the ending theme of the film 泣きたい私は猫をかぶる (A Whisker Away) — the same film that gave us 花に亡霊, which we also covered. We didn't plan that. We just really like Yorushika.
